Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Gorillas and golden monkeys on the volcanoes. Uganda's smallest national park sits on the slopes of the Virunga volcanoes, where Uganda meets Rwanda and the DR Congo. It is quieter than Bwindi and has a habituated gorilla family plus the rare golden monkey.
Bamboo forest climbs towards the peaks of Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo, and on a clear day the views over Kisoro and Lake Mutanda are spectacular. Golden monkey tracking here is gentle and fun, and the Batwa Trail is led by Batwa guides who share their forest heritage.
Fit walkers can climb one of the volcanoes in a long day. Mgahinga pairs naturally with a gorilla trek in Bwindi's southern sectors.
