Queen Elizabeth National Park
Kazinga Channel, Ishasha lions and big skies. Queen Elizabeth is Uganda's classic savannah park, set on the floor of the Albertine Rift between Lake George and Lake Edward. It is the safari half of most gorilla trips.
A boat trip on the Kazinga Channel, which joins the two lakes, brings you close to hippos, buffalo, elephants and huge numbers of waterbirds. The Kasenyi plains are good for lion and Uganda kob, and in the southern Ishasha sector lions famously rest in fig trees.
Add the chimps of Kyambura Gorge, the explosion craters near Mweya, and a bird list of around 600 species, and it is easy to see why the park is a highlight.
